Pastoral Council

Pastoral Council is the principal organization whereby parishioners, through their representatives, share in pastoral consultation, planning, and evaluation resulting in recommendations to the pastor. The Riverview Catholics Pastoral Council meets monthly with our priests and other parish leadership staff. Three selected members from each of the four Riverview Catholics parishes serve on the council. The Council supports the Riverview Catholics Vision: “Deeply encountering Jesus and reflecting Him to others”. We encourage you to meet your respective council members to find out what council is working on with the pastor and to relate to them questions, concerns, and recommendations.

Functions of the Pastoral Council:

  • to pray, dialogue, and develop as an effective team of councilors
  • to represent the wisdom of the Riverview Catholics Family of Parishes community
  • to recommend policies on pastoral matters and set annual goals
  • to evaluate the quality of parish life and of programs offered
  • to advise on the use of parish resources in meeting parish needs
  • to assist the pastor in critical decisions

Membership: The Pastoral Council will consist of three members from each Riverview Catholics parish.

  • Members must be registered members of the parish which they represent.
  • Members must have received all three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist).
  • Members must be practicing Catholics.
  • Members should be active participants in their parish and, ideally, the entire Family of Parishes.
  • Members should be willing to communicate with parishioners to solicit their ideas and input.
  • Members should be able to prepare for and attend meetings.
